‘World of Warcraft’ celebrates 20 years of unmatched longevity in gaming world
MNP – As “World of Warcraft” (WoW) marks its 20th anniversary, the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) continues to demonstrate a remarkable staying power, thanks to its devoted player base and constant evolution.
Since its debut in 2004, WoW has become a cultural phenomenon, attracting millions of players worldwide and evolving with the changing gaming landscape.
The game’s director, Ion Hazzikostas, spoke at the Gamescom trade show in Germany, reflecting on the game’s rare longevity and the pressure of maintaining its legacy. “It is inspiring to be able to work on this rare game that has touched so many lives, and to also feel the burden of carrying that forward,” Hazzikostas said.
As a fan of WoW from the beginning, Hazzikostas joined Blizzard Entertainment, the game’s California-based developer, in 2008, where he rose through the ranks to become its current director. Although WoW wasn’t the first MMORPG, it quickly became an international hit, drawing players in with its rich fantasy world and social experience.
