Sahiwal Division with 24 medals including 15 gold medals, five silver and four bronze medals emerges triumphant in First HED Inter-Collegiate Sports Championship
LAHORE (MNP) Showing excellent performance, Sahiwal Division with 24 medals including 15 gold medals, five silver and four bronze medals emerged triumphant in the First HED Inter-Collegiate Sports Championship which concluded here on Monday.
The First HED Inter-Collegiate Sports Championship was organised under the aegis of Higher Education Department (HED) and with the collaboration of Sports Board Punjab (SBP).
Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail in a statement on Monday said that Sports Board Punjab has provided technical support and other facilities for the smooth organization of First HED Inter-Collegiate Sports Championship. “This event has produced several new athletes which is a great encouragement for emerging players,” he added.
Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail further said that educational institutions are nurseries of sports talent and Sports Board Punjab is taking effective measures for tracing talented male and female athletes from educational institutions. “Sports Board Punjab is preparing a two-year sports calendar under which new talent will be unearthed at tehsil, district and division level,” he explained.
Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail stated that we are preparing our own team of Punjab province in every sport discipline so that our players can participate in national and international competitions and earn laurels for the country. He also congratulated all the players who won medals in the First HED Inter-Collegiate Sports Championship.
As per final results, Sahiwal Division secured top position with 24 medals which includes 15 gold medals, five silver and four bronze medals in the 5-day competitions. Faisalabad Division were placed second with an aggregate of 31 medals including eight gold medals, 17 silver and six bronze medals followed by Lahore division with 31 medals that includes six gold medals, eight silver and 17 bronze medals.
The 4th position went to Sargodha with 16 medals (six gold medal, five silver and five bronze medals) followed by Gujranwala with 16 medals (five gold medals, seven silver and four bronze medals), Multan with 18 medals (five gold, six silver and seven bronze medals), DG Khan with 6 medals (four gold, one silver and one bronze medal), Rawalpindi with 7 medals (one gold medal, one silver and five bronze medals) and Bahawalpur with four medals (one gold medal, one silver and two bronze medals).
