Over 67,000 people evacuated from #Sindh #coastal areas: Sharjeel

KARACHI (MNP) – #Sindh #Minister for Information #SharjeelMemon on Wednesday said that out of a total 74,343 the provincial #government has so far evacuated at least 67,367 people from coastal areas of Sindh as #tropical #cyclone #Biparjoy is expected to make a landfall between #KetiBandar (Southeast Sindh #Coastline) and the Indian Gujarat Coastline today (Thursday).

Sharjeel Memon said that almost 91 percent people from the coastal towns of Sindh have been shifted to safe places.

He informed that 13,000 people from Keti Bandar, 5,000 from Ghora Bari, 11,560 from Shaheed Fazil Raho, 8,500 from Sajawal, 8,160 from Jati and 4,871 persons from Kharo Chan have been shifted to safe places.

According to latest update issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) at 5:00am on Thursday, the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS) “Biparjoy” over northeast Arabian Sea has moved north northeastward during last 06 hours and now lies near Latitude 22.4°N and Longitude 66.8°E at a distance of about 262km south of Karachi, 276km south of Thatta and 191km south-southwest of Keti Bandar.

Maximum sustained surface winds are 120-140 Km/hour with gusts up to 160 Km/hour around the system centre and sea conditions being phenomenal around the system centre with maximum wave height of 30 feet.
