LCCI President urges government to address reservations of beverage, confectionery sector
Lahore (MNP) Beverage and Confections sector has expressed grave concern on rapidly rising cost of doing business and urged the government to take measures on war footing.
A delegation of Beverage and Confectioners, led by Tahir Anjum, on Thursday, called on the President of Lahore Chamber of Commerce Kashif Anwar and apprise him of the miseries of Beverage and Confectionery sector.
The delegation members said that sugar is the basic raw material of this sector. During last two weeks, the price of sugar has increased drastically which has increased the cost of doing business tremendously. They said that the price of Confectionery products has increased significantly, which has reduced the market share significantly.
They said that the increasing prices of Beverage and Confectionary products will further reduce the buying power of the consumers. They demanded of the government to immediately control the prices of sugar and prevent the cost of doing business from increasing so as to reduce inflation.
President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashif Anwar assured the delegation of his full cooperation. He said that the government should take concrete steps to protect this sector and reduce the cost of doing business. He said that the employment of many people is associated to the beverage and confectionary business. Increasing cost of doing business will further increase the problems of this sectors, the businesses will be closed and unemployment will be increased which is not in the interest of the country.
The LCCI President said that the huge increase in the price of sugar has badly affected beverage and confectionary sector. He said that the government should find out and control the factors that have led to the huge increase in the prices of the basic raw material for confectioners.
