Punjab election: ECP appoints returning officers
ISLAMABAD (MNP) – The Election Commission of Pakistan on Friday appointed district returning, returning and assistant returning officers for the election in Punjab.
As per the notification released by the ECP, in the 36 districts of Punjab, deputy commissioners have been granted the status of district returning officers. The polls would be held on April 30.
Deputy Secretary Irrigation retired Capt Waseem has been appointed Lahore’s returning officer. The returning officer (RO) and assistant returning officers have been appointed in the 29 constituencies.
In Lahore, the elections will be held from PPP 144 to 173. In short, bureaucrats have been appointed ROs in the 297 constituencies of Punjab.
Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) urgently demanded a budget of Rs15 billion to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming general elections in the two provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies.
In a crucial meeting held on Thursday at the election commission, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, the electoral watchdog said that a sum of Rs20 billion was required for the elections. Out of which only Rs5 billion has been provided to the commission so far, leaving a shortfall of Rs15 billion.
